OVERVIEW Nina is a Grisha, a girl with the ability to practice the "Small Science" and a former soldier of the Ravkan Second Army. She grew up in the Little Palace, learning to hone her abilities as a Heartrender, but during the Ravkan civil war her training was cut short and she was sent on missions much earlier than expected. During one of these missions trying to rescue other Grisha, she was caught by a Fjerdan druskelle (or witch hunter) named Matthias, who saw right through her disguise and threw her onto a ship with other captured Grisha, all of whom were to be transported to the Fjerdan capital and executed. The conditions on the ship were horrendous—the Grisha were held belowdecks with barely enough room to lie down and given only enough food and water to stave off starvation. (idk i'll finish this later) PERSONALITY Impulsive and empathetic, Nina cares fiercely for her friends and would do anything for them. She's loyal to the Dregs, though she longs to return to Ravka, and believes with all her heart that the Second Army can be rebuilt again. She has a soft spot for underdogs, and isn't the type to sit idly by while other people suffer. Despite this, there's also a part of her, fostered during her military training, that's pragmatic—she knows that sometimes betrayals and hard choices are necessary for the greater good, but those decisions tend to stick with her until she rights them. Of her friends, she tends to be one of the more optimistic and hopeful. Nina can also be ruthless, loathe to back down when anything of any significance is at stake, and does a good job playing at being unflappable and every bit the soldier the Little Palace trained her to be. Deep down, though, she's a bit of a romantic, a total flirt, and a kid who often finds herself in over her head and struggling to survive. ABILITIES Nina is a Grisha Corporalki, giving her power over the human body. More specifically, she was trained as a Heartrender, but still has some Healing and Tailoring abilities. Heartrenders - Specialization in all the different ways a human body can break and be broken. Nina can stop hearts, shatter bones, or slow breathing, as long as her target is in her line of sight. Healers - Just as it sounds. Nina's healing abilities are much less skilled, as Heartrender training diverges from Healer training after a few years, but she knows enough to get by. Healing someone requires direct contact with them. Tailoring - Nina is able to alter physical appearance, such as using pigments to change the color of a person's hair and eyes, but these effects are temporary. Post-Six of Crows - After ingesting and using jurda parem, Nina's abilities were permanently altered. Now her only power is over dead tissue, not living, and she can also speed along certain maladies, such as making tumors grow exponentially more quickly than they would naturally.
